In the 1940s, when struggling artists moved into abandoned warehouses in New York’s SoHo area, lofts came to be known as a multi-use space that accommodated both work and living.
Now days these stylish apartments are the dream of many people who love the urban culture and style (I have to admit I am definitely one of those people) a dream of Unique tiles, exposed ductwork, floors of colored concrete , old wood planks and distinctive light fixtures.

But until all of us dreamers will have the chance of doing so, who says our current home can’t give us this amazing New-York chic?
Nothing says I live in a loft (or would like you to think I do) with more directness than the humble work stool with a seat that adjusts on a visible industrial screw.
You can find this great item at various prices from vintage furniture stores and flea markets, but what if you want a matching set for a kitchen counter?
Home decor catalogs have turned up with reproductions of factory classics, above. One of these new versions of old favorites is the Modern Times factory stool from the Sundance Catalog, which sells for $195, the other is Cooper’s Small Draftsman stool, $159 from Wisteria.

For those who prefer a shinier version that looks more contemporary than the early 20th century reproductions, there are several stainless steel models on the market (above), which feature adjustable screw stools and footrests.

I guess you can always get the home of your dreams with the help of only a few new pieces and a bit of imagination.

The designer who gave us delft-blue vases, avant-garde macramé chairs, aqua jewels and his girlfriend on a string – Marcel Wanders- is now the creator of “Daydreams,” an exhibition opening November 22 at the Philadelphia Museum of Art that only Wanders could dream up, the inimitable Dutch designer mixes 14 years of his objects with a hand-picked selection of films, making what he calls a “theatrical forestscape” that is equal parts hagiography and theater of the absurd. “He’s an extremely interesting, humorous designer,” says Kathryn Hiesinger, the show’s curator, “but underneath it, also deeply serious and original.”

Mondrian South Beach, a hotel and apartment complex with interiors by Marcel Wanders, opens in Miami Beach on 1 December.

“Normally, art is placed in a museum in a neutral position” says Wanders “We tried to do the opposite. We tried to make a really dark space with very theatrical light, and placed objects here and there with changing lights, sound, images—a constantly changing world. ”

The crochet chair is constructed from individual, hand-sewn crochet flowers that are stitched together, formed over a mold and stiffened with resin.

“We want to excite people about the world of design. So it’s not that the objects are the best, or the pieces I like best, but the pieces that best create this world we want to convey”. One of those pieces is the Calvin lamp, the big lamp shown two years ago in Milan. It is 3 meters high. Under the lamp you hear the sound of rain, which is fun because it gives a sense of protection and relaxation.

The Calvin lamp

According to Marcel, experiencing the space and seeing the movies gives you a deeper sense of what the studio wants to represent and what they want to bring to design. You feel who they are.

Villa Moda in Bahrain, is a multibrand luxury fashion store founded by Sheikh Majed, one of the driving forces behind fashion in the Middle East.

For the interior design of Villa Moda, Marcel Wanders found inspiration in the traditional souk, creating a melting pot of cultures full of surprising details

I tell you one thing for sure you wouldn’t want to miss that!

Every week I’m looking for the new cool trend or Innovative design for my posts, this time while doing my search a thought came across my mind – maybe I need to go back to the source.
The Le Corbusier Chaise Lounge is the best known and most successful design of the Famous Architect and Designer – Le Corbusier.Le Corbusier Chaise Lounge (LC4) was designed in 1928 in France for the furnishing of a villa in the Ville d’ Avray, and first exhibited at the Salon D’ Automne in 1929, The design utilizes exposed structural elements with a padded leather cushion and headrest; Le Corbusier Chaise Lounge allows you to select from the various choices of positions for guaranteed comfort.

As a spirited advocate of Modernism, Le Corbusier created a range of chairs that expressed his ideals with great sophistication. During his career, Le Corbusier spent much of his efforts on designing buildings and environments for urbanism. His designs over the years included furniture, apartments, public buildings and entire cities.
Le Corbusier had many controversial ideas (such as his plan (not implemented) to destroy much of central Paris to build massive towers surrounded by parks) but the fact remains that his genius designs, till this day (when they are 82 years old) look like the latest thing in design and are sold world wide for many people who are looking to own his “pieces of imagination”.
If you are one of these people go to cmycasa  3D Design Platform and see how this great piece can look in your room.

“Yay,” Chen said when the chair held her weight.

Chen designed her coffee shop around the concept of global warming. The students used recycled cardboard for green construction of the chairs. She will use the chairs in her master’s of fine arts thesis exhibition at Indiana State University.

Cardboard Chairs, furniture designed for global warming

The students divided into groups and designed chairs made of corrugated cardboard. They could use no glue or other adhesives in assembling the chairs, which had to support a 250-pound person.
“As interior designers, we don’t just design interior spaces. We also design the furniture that goes in that space,” said Juan Jurado, assistant professor of interior design program. “We try to show them how to use different materials.”
See the full story here.
What do you think, should we get these in the CmyCasa 3D furniture catalog?
