Placing shelves on shelf supports (most commonly 4 of them), is the most common and most efficient method of shelving, in the wood industry, as well as among carpenters and in your own wardrobe. Most commonly a shelf is supported by 4 shelf supports or more. The difficulty with this method of shelving is that even inaccuracy of 1 millimeter or less, makes the shelf slightly quiver and feel unstable, the reason for this is that every 3 dots (or shelf supports for this matter) define a surface (or shelf ). Any additional support needs to fit the exact surface defined by the other 3 supports. Even a miss measurement smaller than 1 mm makes shelves feel less solid then shelves supported by more exact assembled shelf supports – this is due to the uneven distribution of the shelf’s weight between the shelf supports supporting it.
